The media are so hung up on scandals and bad news stories. Knowing that Ray's already resigned, The Province puts the story on the front page banner and puts the picture in the article! Talk about kicking a dead horse while he's down and out! What did he do? He's just having fun like normal 22 year olds. If Ray runs again, we should vote for him and make him win, just to make a statement about how throwing dirt aint gonna change my opinion of anyone. We need a Susan Boyle story in Vancouver.

Actually it was the media who got hold of these and distributed it, they contacted Mary later for comment on the issue. Nevertheless the media knew about this before Mary McNeil, she only found out from the media. But I still find it a shame, because I know Ray is a great guy and I have chatted with him before. I don't think he needed to step down, but there was internal pressure from the BC NDP.

Thanks for your comments! I see you've been on youtube since 2006... you're a veteran! I think Mary McNeil has grossly miscalculated queer culture. Perhaps it's time for the Green Party to win a seat?

Below, I should have said "To imply such a photo is sexist or inappropriate is a HETEROSEXIST and NEOCONSERVATIVE misunderstanding -at the very least- or a purporseful twisting of Ray's intention at the worst, of gay youth and their allies' culture." I believe the Federal NPD in BC lost candidates to pot smoking posted on YouTube in the last fed election.

Very good commentary. Gay youth frolicking about and mocking heterosexual machismo and sexual bravado with the heterosexual girls who are their buddies is a very old way of gay men relating to women at parties. The women are not threatened by it because, duh, their buddy is gay and they know such actions mock the stress they feel from straight men. To imply such a photo is sexist or inappropriate is a sexist misunderstanding of gay youth culture. Ray: reconsider your resignation!

My thoughts exactly. I suppose they too, are pandering to the conservative, prudish voters. I'm not sure what's worse: The Liberal candidate's cheap shot at Ray or the NDP's reaction to it.

this is disgusting.. The NDP leadership should be standing up for this person and letting everyone know taht he has done nothing wrong. They should have tried to stop him from steping down. Instead they just sweep it under the rug. this is the same kindof thing that happened in the last federal election with the NDP candidates being pressured to step down because of their marijuana association.
